I was a different person the last time I stood on the rim of the Grand Canyon. This time it felt like coming home.
Returning to the Grand Canyon, this time as a queer thru-hiker, surfaced fears not of nature but of people.
Lindsey Falkenburg (she/they) is a queer, non-binary writer and long distance hiker. She has hiked the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, Wonderland Trail (four times!), Arizona Trail and most of the Colorado Trail. Although they consider the Pacific Northwest home they recently relocated to Flagstaff, AZ for graduate school and are delighted to be living so close to the Grand Canyon once again. You can follow Lindsey for more at @lindsey_falkenburg on Instagram.
