Grand Canyon Shuttle Buses at the South Rim

Grand Canyon National Park's free shuttle buses operate in and around the South Rim village.

No tickets are required for the Grand Canyon shuttle, and bus stops are clearly marked throughout the park by signs. Each bus is equipped with a 2-or-3-bike-capacity rack. Operation hours change seasonally.

Village Route (Blue route)

This route runs year-round. During the summer hours, May 28- Sept. 6, 2016, the schedule is as follows:

Every 30 minutes, 4 – 6:15 am
Every 15 minutes, 6:15 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Every 30 minutes, 7 p.m. – 11 p.m.
Last bus: 10:30 p.m.

Visitors dining in Grand Canyon Village need to be at a bus stop no later than 10 p.m.

Westbound stops include Grand Canyon Visitor Center, Market Plaza Westbound, Shrine of the Ages, Train Depot and Bright Angel Lodge.

Eastbound stops include Hermits Rest Route Transfer, Maswik Lodge, Backcountry Information Center, Center Road, Village East, Shrine of the Ages, Mather Campground, Trailer Village, Market Plaza Eastbound and Grand Canyon Visitor Center.

Kaibab Rim Route (Orange route)

This route runs year-round, although the times of operation depend on the season. In summer, the shuttle is 50-minutes roundtrip if you don’t get off the bus.

It runs in the summer:
Every 30 minutes from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m.
Every 15 minutes from 6 a.m. to one hour after sunset
Rim route stops include Grand Canyon Visitor Center, Mather Point,Yavapai Point Geology Museum and Grand Canyon Visitor Center.
Kaibab route stops include Grand Canyon Visitor Center, South Kaibab Trailhead, Yaki Point and Pipe Creek Vista. Note: Park shuttle does not go down Desert View Drive beyond Yaki Point.

Hiker’s Express Grand Canyon Shuttle

This shuttle runs 4 a.m. to 9 a.m., depending on the month. It leaves every hour on the hour from Bright Angel Lodge to South Kaibab Trailhead with stops at the Backcountry Information Center, Grand Canyon Visitor Center and South Kaibab Trailhead.

7 am, 8 am, 9 am in March
6 am, 7 am, 8 am in April
5 am, 6 am, 7 am in May
4 am, 5 am, 6 am in June, July, August
5 am, 6 am, 7 am in September
6 am, 7 am, 8 am in October
7 am, 8 am, 9 am in November
8 am, 9 am in December, January, February

Tusayan Route (Purple route)

This route runs March 1 to Sept. 30, 2019, 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Buses leave every 20 minutes. The entire route roundtrip is 40 minutes. The first bus leaves the IMAX in Tusayan at 8 a.m. and the last one departs the IMAX parking area at 9:45 p.m. In the Grand Canyon, the first bus leaves the Grand Canyon Visitor Center at 8:25 a.m. and the last bus departs the center at 9:30 p.m.

There are four stops in Tusayan and depending on whether you are entering or leaving the park, the stops vary. However, Tusayan is a tiny town where everything is just a several-minute walk away.

Southbound stops include Grand Canyon Visitor Center, IMAX/R.P.’s Stage Stop and the Best Western Grand Canyon Squire Inn.

Northbound stops include Grand Hotel, Big E Steakhouse & Saloon and the Grand Canyon Visitor Center.

Hermits Rest Route (Red Route)

This route runs March 1 through Nov. 30, 4:30 a.m. to one hour after sunset. It runs:

Every 30 minutes 4 – 6:15 a.m.
Every 15 minutes 6:45 a.m. to sunset
Every 30 minutes from sunset to one hour after sunset

Westbound stops include Village Route Transfer, Trailview Overlook, Maricopa Point, Powell Point, Hopi Point, Mojave Point, The Abyss, Monument Creek Vista and Pima Point.

Eastbound stops include Hermits Rest, Pima Point, Mojave Point, Powell Point and Village Route Transfer.
