Kachina Lodge

Kachina is a contemporary lodge located on the canyon rim. Half of the rooms at the Kachina Lodge have partial canyon views.

Conveniently located between the historic El Tovar Hotel and Bright Angel Lodge, Kachina Lodge, which was built in 1971, does not have deep-rooted histories like its neighbors down the path. It is located behind the iconic El Tovar Hotel, a classic National Park hotel built in 1905 and made with natural stone, Oregon pine and decorated with elegant but rustic furniture. The Kachina, on the other hand, has none of this historic charm, but what it lacks in inspiring architecture, it makes up for in location.

Attractions Near Kachina Lodge

The Kachina Lodge sits right on the canyon rim, making it easy to explore some of the South Rim’s best attractions by foot. It has no lobby, so if you are looking for ambience and a place to watch the world walk by, head to El Tovar Hotel’s lobby nearby. The Bright Angel trailhead is just minutes away, as is the Hopi House and Kolb Studio. Half of the rooms at the Kachina Lodge have partial canyon views. The other half face the street. The best views come when you step outside the lodge and walk the amazing Rim Trail. It stretches 12.8 miles total and you can walk east or west to discover some of the South Rim’s greatest attractions.

If you are up for stretching your legs, take the trail east to explore the Hopi House designed by architect Mary Jane Colter, stop and dine in El Tovar Hotel’s dining room and see the Verkamp’s Visitor Center. Two miles down the path, you’ll find the Yavapai Geology Museum, an intimate, well-done museum that brings to life the geologic history of the canyon. You can even look through binoculars to see across the canyon to the North Rim. otherwise, head west to Lookout Studio, Kolb Studio and the Bright Angel trailhead.

Rooms at the Kachina Lodge

The Kachina Lodge offers a motel-like experience. All of the rooms are ideally suited for families. They have two queen beds or one king bed, in-room coffee, refrigerator, safe, television, telephone and full bath. Rooms designed for guests with physical disabilities are available, as well.
