Stay at Grand Canyon’s South Rim Entrance at Red Feather Lodge
Stay at this modern hotel for easy access to the park via car, shuttle or bike.
If you’re looking for the best access to Grand Canyon National Park’s South Rim, but don’t want to pay the price of park lodging, Red Feather Lodge is the perfect option. Located in the park’s gateway town of Tusayan, just one mile from the entrance station and 15 minutes to the canyon’s rim, you’ll find an affordable hotel with tons of amenities walking distance from restaurants, tour operators and the Grand Canyon Visitor Center and IMAX Theater.

The first hotel built in Tusayan in 1964, Red Feather Lodge is still owned and operated by the same family. Today, you’ll find modern, renovated hotel and motel rooms along with a fitness center, a seasonal outdoor pool and hot tub and amenities to make your vacation easier like a business center and coin-op laundry. The hotel is even pet-friendly, as long as you reserve in advance, so if you’re traveling with Fido it’s the perfect choice. Remember that the national park has strict pet rules so you may want to opt for recreating with them in the nearby Kaibab National Forest instead.

Tusayan’s many restaurants are within walking distance of Red Feather Lodge but if you’ve spent the day hiking park trails and aren’t up for another walk, look no further than Plaza Bonita Restaurant, which is on site. You’ll find Mexican and American fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant has a full bar as well, including great margaritas.
Traffic and parking can often be an issue at Grand Canyon, but staying in Tusayan makes it easy to leave your car behind. In the summer, the park offers a free shuttle from town every 20 minutes that will take you to Grand Canyon Village inside the park. From there, you can transfer to the park’s three other lines to access viewpoints, hiking trails and more. Catch the shuttle at the Grand Canyon Visitor Center and IMAX Theater just down the street from the lodge.

Another great way to access the park without your car is by walking or biking the Greenway Trail. It’s about seven miles to the rim with a gradual incline. Bikes and e-bikes can be rented in Tusayan.
You’ll find easy access to tons of activities right in town. Many companies offering tours of the park and surrounding area from hiking to ATVing to air tours operate out of Tusayan and will pick you up from the lodge. Don’t miss a stop at the Grand Canyon Visitor Center and IMAX Theater down the street to learn more about the canyon, watch an amazing film and buy your annual park pass. Seven day passes can be purchased at the lodge.
